Who is responsible for your data

Settle, a business established in Ireland operating this website under the trading name Settle, is the data controller for the personal data described here. We decide what is collected and why, and we are accountable for how it is handled.

What we collect and why

Account details (email address and login credentials) to create and secure your account, on the basis of performing our contract with you. Profile inputs you choose to save (degree level, field of study, current gross pay, passport type, lifestyle and saved cities) to produce your rankings and dashboard, also on the basis of our contract. Support messages you send us, to answer them, on the basis of our legitimate interest in helping customers. Usage and device information, including IP address, pages viewed and errors encountered, to keep the service secure, diagnose faults and improve it, on the basis of our legitimate interests. Referral records (who signed up through your link and what commission is due) to run the referral programme, on the basis of our contract with you. If we ever send marketing email, we do so on the basis of your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time.

Payments

Payments are handled by Paddle, our reseller and Merchant of Record. Paddle collects the billing and payment information needed to take payment, calculate tax and issue invoices, and acts as controller of that data. We receive only the subscription status and identifiers needed to unlock your access.

Who we share data with

Service providers acting on our instructions, including hosting, database, authentication, error monitoring and email delivery providers; Paddle as Merchant of Record for sale, subscription management, payments, tax compliance and invoicing; the AI provider that generates salary forecasts, which receives the figures needed for a forecast and not your identity; professional advisers such as accountants and lawyers where necessary; and public authorities where the law requires it. We do not sell personal data.

International transfers

Some of these providers process data outside the European Economic Area. Where that happens we rely on an adequacy decision or on standard contractual clauses, together with appropriate technical safeguards.

How long we keep it

Account and profile data is kept while your account exists and for up to twelve months afterwards, then deleted or anonymised. Records needed for tax, accounting or fraud prevention are kept for as long as the law requires. You can ask us to delete your account and saved data at any time.

Your rights

You have the right to access your data, correct it, have it erased, restrict or object to its processing, receive a portable copy, and withdraw consent where processing rests on consent. You also have the right to complain to your supervisory authority, which in Ireland is the Data Protection Commission. We respond to requests within one month.

Security

Data is stored on managed infrastructure with encryption in transit, access controls, row level database rules that keep your saved data visible only to you, and restricted administrative access.

Cookies and similar storage

We use essential cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in, to remember your preferences and to run the checkout securely. These are required for the service to work. We do not run advertising or cross site tracking cookies. Blocking essential storage in your browser will stop sign in from working.

Contact

Questions or requests about your data can be sent through the contact route listed on our about page.
